CHEC Geography Bee Winner

Congratulations to Alden Savoca, an eighth grade homeschool student from DeBeque, on winning the Christian Home Educators of Colorado Geography Bee! Eleven other students joined Savoca in the competition on Dec. 6 at Vista Grande Baptist Church in Colorado Springs. Alden won the competition by correctly answering this question: “The Kiraly and Rudas mineral baths in Hungary’s largest city were built during the Ottoman occupation from the mid 1500s to the late 1600s. Name this city.” (The answer: Budapest.)
Alden immediately took a written examination that could qualify him for the state competition. If his score is among the top 100 in the state, Alden will advance to the Colorado Geography Bee at the University of Denver in April 2009. The state winner will advance to the National Geographic Society Bee in Washington, D.C. in May 2009.

Join us for either of the CHEC Geography Bees. The winner of each CHEC Bee will take the qualifying test for the State Bee, to be held April 2009. The State Bee winner will compete at the National Bee in Washington, DC, in May 2009. You must be in grades four through eight and not over the age of 15 by the time of the national level competition. All students must be exclusively homeschooled, and not attend public, private or parochial schools.
Questions for the Bee will address economics, culture, natural resources, and conservation, including United States geography, World geography and physical geography.
